Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend we were supposed to go to St. Louis to Les and Carol's house to celebrate Grandad's 80th birthday.  Well, Hannah was running a fever and so she and I didn't get to go.  We were sad about that, but I was determined to make the most of our long weekend together.  It turned out to be one of the most special times with Hannah ever.  We sewed, watched a new series on the BYU channel called Granite Flats, and had a really good talk.  More on that in a minute.

I really wanted a new tote bag to use for preschool to haul my stuff back and forth.  I looked at numerous places and just couldn't find what I wanted for a decent price.  So, I decided to just make my own.  I got the materials and knew that I could probably get a lot done over the weekend.  I have a love/hate relationship with sewing.  I like the challenge, love the finished product and the accomplishment, but the process can just about kill me sometimes.!  Ha!  Sewing is not for the faint of heart.  It is so much sew this, oops messed that completely up, rip it all out, and do it again--the right way.  Sometimes I want to pull my hair out.  This bag wasn't too bad, but I did have a time or two where I had to take out and do over.

The finished product.  I love it and it is holding up well!

When Hannah sees me sew, it gets her in the mood.  She has always loved to do whatever I am doing.  We had the time, so she picked out her fabrics and found a pattern on Pinterest that she liked.  I told her that I wasn't sure I could do it because I had never done one like it before.  Most of my bags have been basic.  This one was a challenge, but boy was I proud of her.  She did most of it by herself.  She had to iron her fabric, cut out her pattern pieces, sew on the machine, baste by hand, and learn how to follow directions all while being patient!!!

We had the best time together.  It was pure joy.  Her bag turned out SO cute and she uses it all the time--which makes this Momma happy!  I was just so very proud of her.

The other thing that she and I did during our time together was had "the talk."  The timing on this couldn't have been any more perfect.  I had just gotten the book and it suggests that you complete it over 7 consecutive days.  I knew that that would be a challenge with school going on, so I used the long weekend to get it all done.  The book is 7 lessons to introduce your child to Biblical Sexuality.  We were able to do 2-3 lessons each day and finished it before the guys got home.  I must say this book was perfect for this talk with Hannah.  It told everything that I wanted to share with her--from a Biblical perspective.  It wasn't awkward.  It was just very easy and she took it extremely well.  I highly recommend this book.

I am so thankful for this special time with Hannah.  We really bonded and made some wonderful memories together.  I hope she treasures them because I know that I will!!!!

Catching up on August and September

Well, now that we are almost through with October, I guess I better catch up on August and September.  Life has been busy lately.  School is in full swing and there just hasn't been the time to blog like I wish.  This blog is so important to me.  It helps me keep up with life in a way and not forget things.  So, I am hoping to get back into it.

This is just a random picture of Hannah and her friend, Madison, at one of Lincoln's tennis practices.  Madison and her family have lived right down the street from us since we moved here.  Hannah has just found the best friend in Madison.  They love the same things and play together so so well.  They both love American Girl and have enjoyed playing together in each other's rooms for hours.  Madison's family recently moved across town and we are so sad about that.  I don't think they will lose their friendship though especially while they are both so into American Girl.  Sweet sweet friends.

Layton and I eating lunch with Hannah one day at school.

I have said it before, but I love to look at the walls by the kids' classrooms and see the fun artwork or writings that they do.  This was Lincoln's self portrait I think--with shades.  Love it!

This pic may have been taken on the first day of school.  It was hanging outside his classroom.

Lincoln and Jack went to a Scottie Thurman basketball camp one Saturday morning in August.  It was kind of cool to get to see a former pretty well known Razorback basketball player.  I remember watching him while he played for Arkansas years ago.

Lincoln and Jack one evening on our way to tennis practice.  I love them.

Kris and I enjoyed getting to go see Pentatonix and Kelly Clarkson in concert with our friends, the Dockerys.  They were both SO good!  Unbelievable singers.

We get so tickled at ourselves when we try to take selfies.  Ha!

Love my friend, Sara.

Well, that does it for August and September!
