Lincoln and Baseball

Lincoln is playing machine pitch baseball this year.  Big change from T-ball.  We decided to play with Salem this time around instead of Bryant.  His best buddy from school played in this league last year (coach pitch) and I have gotten to know his mom.  She really liked it and it was free the first year you play, so we went with it!  We also knew how Bryant would be.  I believe they think that baseball should be everyone's life.  Well, that is not really what we wanted.  He is SIX for heaven's sake!  Anyway, this league reminds us a little of the movie The Sandlot.  Ha!  The fields aren't that pretty, but he is learning the game and, I think, getting to kind of stretch himself (get out of his comfort zone).  These are good things to me!

Here he is at his first practice game a couple of weeks ago.

His coach decided to try him at catcher.  Boy, was he not-so-sure about this!  He was quite awkward in all the gear and basically just looked at every ball that came his way!  Then, he would leisurely walk behind him to retrieve the ball and throw it back to the pitcher.

Poor baby got hit in the arm by a ball.  The other team's coach came and put an arm band on him and it seemed to help.

The next few pictures are from his first real game a week ago.  He played catcher for 3 innings.  He did better.  I told him I'd give him a quarter for every ball he caught.  Lincoln needs a little motivation and it worked.  He only caught 2 balls, but he tried a lot harder!

Smiling for his momma!

These two videos are from his practice game.  The first one cracks me up.  He hit the ball, but it went right in front of him.  But he got on base!  Ha!  The second one is also from the practice game.  He got a good hit the next time at bat.

He had his second game this past Monday night.  I was so proud of that little booger.  He played catcher the first inning and did pretty good.  The rest of the game he played 1st base.  We've got to get him to remember to stay close to his base because he wants to go wherever the ball is even if it is close to 3rd!  There was one play that I wish I could have recorded.  He ran down a runner running from 3rd to home and got him out, preventing a run!  He looked over at me and just had the cutest look on his face.  Everyone was cheering for him.  He was so proud because he knew he had done well.  Loved it!  He tried to get another kid out running from 2nd to 3rd and just barely missed getting him.  Then, the other team's coach decided he was going to send his kid home while Lincoln was still standing there trying to decide where to throw the ball.  So, then Lincoln took off running after the kid going home and almost got him.  I thought that was a cheap shot by that coach and so did a lot of the other parents.  Anyway, I thought he did really well!

Who knows if Lincoln will end up being a baseball player.  I just want him to have fun, learn how to play, and learn how to work hard.  Should be fun to watch!
