Recently Hannah and I kind of had a Mommy/Daughter weekend. There were several things in a row that we got to do just she and I. It started with a Friday Field Trip with her grade level to Camp Winnamocka in Arkadelphia. Thanks to my friend, Leanne, for watching Layton, I got to have the one-on-one time with Hannah. I got to ride the bus with her and her friends. :)
This camp was fabulous! There was so much to do. The kids started off in Fort Jackson which was like a big pioneer fort and where all the bunk beds were for real campers. The staff there was awesome. They separated the girls and boys and did some boys vs girls games which the kids just loved. I couldn't get over the staff there. They were extremely good with the kids and every thing was very organized. But what impressed me the most was how they learned and could immediately recall every single kids' name. The lady over all the girls could call every girl by name. This was 3 classes worth of girls. The guy leader could do the same with the boys. It was so cool. I wasn't the only parent that was intrigued by this.
They had a boys vs girls water balloon fight. The boys defended the big fort while the girls got to sneak up on them through the woods. All the kids had such a blast!
They all got to go up in the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House.
It has a ropes course that goes with it for campers. Our kids didn't do this part, but it was really cool.
They had a couple of pirate ships the kids got to check out. Apparently during the summer, kids are able to have water wars on these ships.
Hannah and her friend, Haley. It was such a fun field trip and one of the coolest places. Too bad we can't afford the $1,000 summer camp admission!
That night Hannah and I went to eat dinner with friends at Larry's Pizza and then all headed to Verizon Arena to watch Disney on Ice. Here is Hannah with Karly, Kenzie, and Lucy.
It was a great show!
Finally, the next morning, Hannah and I went to a Ladies Brunch/Fellowship time at church. We listened to Linda Smith speak. At the end she had different women come up and stand as she told about a challenge that they had had in their life. There were different things like cancer, sickness, husband's death, abuse, racism, etc. At the end, they each put the scarf that they were wearing on the cross as a symbol of them letting Jesus carry their burdens. The last person Linda spoke about was a lady named Wanda Milton. She fought cancer for a long time and finally passed away several months ago. Linda had a wheel chair there to represent her and they put her hat on the top of the cross. Wanda was a special lady to a lot of people. I didn't know her that well, but couldn't help getting so emotional. It was really touching.
The whole time I was just thinking about how glad I was that Hannah was there with me. I know she listened and took everything in. I am so glad that she can be surrounded by women such as these as she grows up. Above all that we did together that weekend, this was my favorite and the one I hope she remembers the most!
