First Camping Trip - Part 1

Hannah turned 7 on October 8th.  That was the weekend we picked for our big camping trip.  Hannah went to school that Friday.  Kris worked half the day and then came home and helped me load the Suburban with everything we needed.  We picked up Hannah from school when it was over and drove to Lake Ouachita.
We got there about 4:30 p.m. and Kris walked into the campground office to get us a camping spot.  The first thing the lady said was "We're all full."  Kris couldn't believe it and asked what we should do.  She told him we'd have to go somewhere else.  Just as he was about to start sweating it, a lady who had come in at about the same time as him piped up that she was cancelling one of her previously reserved tent camping spots and he could have it!  We totally lucked out!  We headed to our spot and Kris got started pitching our new 10 man tent.  We were all so excited!

We had a gorgeous view of the water.  It was so neat.
The only bad thing about our spot was we ended up not being able to get a spot with electricity and water. We also saw when we got there that the burn ban was on. We were prepared though.  Since we couldn't have a camp fire, we used our gas stove to grill some hotdogs for supper.  We also had baked beans and chips.
It was about sunset by this time.  It was beautiful.

I didn't really know what we would be able to do that evening.  We had a gas lamp, but it was still pretty dark.  Good thing I brought the light up hats, ball, bracelets, necklaces, and axes.  The kids had a lot of fun with them.
We sat around a just had family time.  So nice!!!

We thought we would try to get Layton to go to sleep and then go do our smores.  We tried, but eventually gave up and just went ahead and did them.
Next time hopefully we can have a fire and the kids can roast the marshmallows themselves.

They probably each took one bite and they were done.  They are not big on smores.  Crazy I know!!

I liked them!!!
Shortly after the smores, we headed to bed.  It took Layton a little while to go to sleep.  He wanted to be right on top of me.  He wasn't too sure about the tent.  The big kids, though, were out pretty quickly!  They all slept all night long.  The weather was PERFECT!!  We woke up to low 60's.  We were warm and cozy in our tent!!
