Road Trip!!! Days 1 & 2

We haven't had a real vacation in a while, so we were due for one this summer.  I thought it would be fun to do a road trip.  We knew we wanted to go to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.  So, we headed that direction.  We didn't really plan much other than that, so we just went with the flow.  I LOVED doing this!  It was fun and exciting to just be spontaneous like that--totally out of our character.

Lincoln had a swim meet on Saturday morning, July 8th, in Bryant.  We were up early for it, but when we got there, the center's electricity was out.  They ended up cancelling the meet which totally worked in our favor.  We were able to head out a lot earlier than we originally thought.

Heading out on our journey!  We stopped in Memphis and met up with Lindsey and Roman for lunch.  This was our first time to meet Roman.  I can't believe I didn't take a picture.  We took Lindsey lots of baby clothes.  I hated that we didn't get to see Lance as well, but we had to meet up with Lindsey so much earlier in the day that he wasn't able to be there.

The early morning must have caught up with Hannah.

We got to Huntsville in good time that evening and were able to go for a little swim before dinner.

We had dinner at The Blue Plate Cafe that night.

The next morning we started our day off right by going to church at the Mayfair Church of Christ.  This is something Kris and I both love to do while on vacation.  It seemed like a great church and the people were very friendly.  I hope that our kids will remember doing this.  I think it is important for them to know that it is always good, no matter where you are, to stop and worship God on the Lord's day--even while on vacation.  Plus, you never know.  You may hear something that you really needed to hear.

After church we drove on over to the Space Center.  It was a beautiful day and we were excited to explore!

Right as you walk in we saw these big Knex displays.  They were fascinating to me.  Lincoln likes to build with these.

We walked through the museum part of the center and saw some really cool historical things like this big photograph of the first foot print on the moon.

This was a neat display that showed the distance to scale of the planets in relation to the sun.

A really cool photo of Angling Saturn taken by a probe in 2012.  Amazing!

Some different space suits.

They had a cool Mars rock climbing wall that most of us did.

This was a motion based simulator that just about made me sick.  The kids loved it!

They also loved this ride.  It let them experience three times the force of gravity.  Kris, Layton, Ledger, and I sat this one out.

Waiting on Bubba and Sissy.  This little thing was so cute walking around with the big rocket in the background.  I couldn't resist taking a bunch of pictures.

Hannah and Lincoln also rode this Space Shot ride several times.  Layton was too little to ride.  It went 140 feet up in 2.5 seconds.  It had 2-3 seconds of weightlessness out of your seat and then a 1 G free fall.

We toured another museum section which had all the parts of the Saturn V 500D/F moon rocket suspended from the ceiling.  It was huge!

Sweet Ledger was worn out.

Layton had a turn to ride a ride!

We ended the day eating Panda Garden, which we love, and then relaxing back at the hotel.  It was a really fun day!!
