Getting ready for Christmas

Last night we finally got around to putting up the Christmas trees. We got the big one up, but haven't decorated it yet. We bought Hannah one last year after Christmas for her room, so we put it up with the kids' help. They were excited!

Then, we started a new tradition this year--The Elf on the Shelf. I have heard about it for years and finally got one.

So, the kids got to hear the story for the first time. If you don't know what this is, it is a story about a little elf that every morning till Christmas shows up in a different place in your house. The kids have to find him each day. The story says that he is there to watch over them during the day and then he leaves at night, returns to Santa, and tells Santa if they have been naughty or nice.

They really listened to the story. I had to repeat myself several times to make sure they understood what it was about.

I'm not sure what the faces were for, but it looked like they were surprised or something.

This morning they got up and went from room to room looking for the Elf. They found him in the playroom on top of the tv.

This is going to be fun I think! The first morning they were supposed to name their Elf. We asked them what they wanted to name him and Hannah had a hard time thinking of one. The first thing Lincoln said when we asked him what he wanted to name him was "O". Since they couldn't decide on another one, they agreed on "O". So, O the Elf it is!
